From today's Oregonian, on a proposed convention center hotel:
The city must scrape together as much as $79 million in taxpayer money if it wants to entice private investors to fork up the rest of the $150 million tab.Apparently the third option -- be responsible with city money, which means not trying to do things that belong in the private sector -- never came up in discussions. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, considering the $55 million saga over what Jack Bogdanski would call "The Tram [rimshot]."
If that's too rich, the city may have to just build and own the hotel itself.
